MARCH 1ST 2008 - LOCAL DERBY DAY!!
Mark this date in your calendar- it is shaping up to be a cracker! With the weather having wreaked havoc recently and affecting a number of fixtures for both the 1st XV and 2nd XV Stags, fate has thrown up a real eye catcher of a day with both male senior sides playing in local derbies on the same day.
With the 1st XV having recorded a strong 25-10 win over Madras FP at the weekend, the next round of the Scottish Hydro-Electric Bowl has thrown Hillfoots/Alloa together with Grangemouth at Glensburgh Park. With both teams having met in pre season friendlies and also having done live scrimmaging sessions over the winter, this is shaping up to be a real blood and snotters game. Both teams are currently languishing in the nether regions of their respective divisions, and will see the Bowl as an ideal way to play rugby, free of the constraints of relegation worries.
Meanwhile, the 2nd XV will be entertaining Falkirk on the adjascent Glensburgh pitch. Having won the first encounter handsomely at Sunnyside, the Falkirk team will be keen to exact some revenge, while Grangemouth will no doubt be inundated with phone calls from their 30 somethings looking to record another victory from past years. Always full of incidents and good quality play, this should be as ever an entertaining fixture.
To complete this remarkable rugby fest, the Under 18's will be hosting Kirkcaldy Colts in their championship playoffs. It would be worth popping along to watch this game alone as Grangemouth continue to develop their senior players for the future under the expert tutelage of Jim 'Fritz' Forsyth and friends. There is a very lively and active junior scene at Glensburgh, and this game promises to be end to end stuff with scores aplenty.
As always, your support would be greatly appreciated for your local team, and the bar will be open early doors for your refreshment! See you there...
